In an attempt to keep up with the latest LED trends I recently spent some time on the U.S. Department of Energy’s website for solid state lighting and came across a really helpful video series from Electric TV that helps break down the basics of LED lighting for the electrical professional and provides helpful tips and tools to get through the constant barrage of LED questions that one is faced with on a daily basis.

The videos talk about a key benefit of LED lights that really make the technology an advantageous light source to consider: LED lifetime.  Properly designed LED lighting fixtures can last well beyond the 50,000 hours that are advertised in the industry, which can be extremely beneficial, especially in an industrial setting.  Imagine a world where your Industrial LED lights are installed and you don’t have to bring out another cherry picker to change a light for over 5 years, and that’s if you run you lights 24 hours a day!  Just think of all the projects a facilities management team could accomplish in the free time they have once lighting maintenance is eliminated during planned downtime.

We all know about the energy saving benefits of LEDs, but when you add in the lifetime, it is a product that makes significant sense, especially for industrial lighting in manufacturing and warehousing settings.  This is just one element of the argument for LED lighting, and the video series mentioned above will provide you with the tools you need to not only understand LEDs, but to take full advantage of integrating them into your electrical wheel-house.
